Miike’s latest- Sukiyaki Western Django
September 2, 2008
Takashi Miike makes some of the strangest and most surreal movies in any language. I can’t recommend these as date movies, or even a second date unless you are dating a friend and you have an idea what kind of reaction you may get. My first taste of Miike’s art form was with Audition, which some have claimed permanent scarring- softies! I was in Plan 9 (Bloomington IN), they arrange by director which is oh so convenient; the guy working was joking about a quote with a friend and would not give up any details so I had to see it. “Kiri kiri kiri kiri” this made the guy squirm and laugh in a slightly wicked way, I had to investigate. Well Audition had me hooked, I had never watched a movie so eerie and strangely hilarious before. The next movie was “Visitor Q” which is easily the most disturbing guest flick ever. Ichii oh Ichii how demented can gang violence get. I have seen some others but were so off the wall I have no reference to even begin describing them. Bottom line, I will watch this, and perhaps put up a review. The New York Times did one that did not say much, which is good that way nothing is spoiled. No telling what we will get, but one thing is for sure; it is going to be different.
